Coastal monitoring is the systematic and ongoing collection of data and observations regarding the physical, chemical, biological, and geological characteristics of coastal environments. As an interdisciplinary research field and methodological approach, it investigates the spatio-temporal dynamics, health, and resilience of these critical zones, including natural processes and anthropogenic impacts, to provide the scientific foundation for understanding change, assessing threats, and informing evidence-based management and conservation strategies.
